If there’s one thing Chicago knows how to do, it’s throw a St. Patrick’s Day party.
Of course, this time of year, we don’t need much of an excuse to celebrate – at least we don’t here at Spa Space, which was voted the best spa in Chicago (again!). If the sun came out or the temperature rose above 20, everyone in our spa in downtown Chicago breaks out in a happy dance.

Mona Gohara, MD, a Danbury, CT-based dermatologist, told the magazine, “Having a hangover is like being chased by a bear—it triggers the same response in your body. That includes a cortisol spike and dehydration to all non vital organs—like skin.”
Well+Good points out that you really should prep your skin in advance, if you know a big celebration is in your future. Start days in advance hydrating inside and out. If the damage has already been done, Well+Good reports that it usually takes about 24 hours for your body to recover. To help with the process, they say:
- Choose hydrators with extra electrolytes, like coconut water.
- Take a probiotic to give your gut a little extra love.
- For puffy skin and dark circles, use products with ingredients like caffeine that will stimulate blood flow.
- Your complexion will welcome a healthy application of a hydrating serum with an ingredient such as hyaluronic acid.
